July31,2005"busy but well-rewarded (yester)day" music: Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Swinger
mood:
today (saturday actually) was just a really busy day, but well-rewarded in the end. sat down for a family lunch today at this chinese restaurant on balboa street. it was fine, the food was actually quite good, (fried calamari! wee!) and i started to realize that this truly may be my last (forced) birthday party with my family. i never want them to do much for me, but they always end up doing something cuz my mother is insistent and it's "tradition." after i finished eating, i sat there staring across at my mother as she gossiped incessantly with my aunt. after pondering about how long it would take for my mother to choke on her food for talking so much, i began to look around me and observe my relatives. it was kind of shocking how different this family gathering was. one by one, each of us "youngsters" have been leaving this family in pursuit of "bigger and better things." we're leaving behind a history of suffering under the communist regime, a legacy of accomplishments by the generation before our parents. i guess it's just a reminder of how much i want to achieve, and how much i want to make my parents' investment in me worth something. typical of a first/second generation asian kid i guess. ;P but yeh, i guess i really am going to miss my family more than i had expected.
i finally developed my pictures today. 207 pictures including a few doubles, most of which were from senior events of may-june. gawd, i hate to admit it, but i really am gonna miss lowell. well, many of the people at least. and senior year i guess. except for the pre-college process. and the people i didnt (and still dont) like, haha. afterwards, went to work. hectic night at the restaurant, and just terrible miscommunication. oy....wtf is wrong with me? i just keep screwing things up! ;( curses, curses, CURSES! stuart and tammy dropped by for a calzone, left without saying BYE! ;P but it's okey because evan, wolf, and their friends dropped by for dinner and freed me from work afterwards! lol. it was evan's birthday, so i sent him a tiramisu of course and embarrassed him, hehe. went for coffee (well, i had coffee) after work with them, browsed green apple books until they closed, then drove around sf. ended up at the beach where the bonfires were, but didnt start one of our own. we were lacking the essentials, haha. it was just a really nice night out. perfect weather for the beach, though slightly chilly. i kind of wanted to just sit near the waves, but i was too afraid of stepping on jellyfish in my sockless shoes >.< there will be other times i guess.
