August28,2007"across two oceans"
I finally changed this layout after about a year of that rainbow one. I figure that since I'm traveling again, I should have a clean start, hence the white background. I call this new one "across two oceans" because literally, I am crossing two oceans this year. First the Pacific, and soon the Atlantic, which is one that I haven't flown over. I'm running off to Greece this fall, despite the horrific fires raging throughout the Peloponnese. It's shocking that so many villages have been burned down, but the environmental impact seems worse. The fires have also devoured many ancient sacred groves, and even Olympia choked on some ashes. Hopefully the fire will be under control soon. While I know that I will probably be very safe in the center of Athens, the aftermath of this tragedy worries me. Perhaps I will be able to help out when I'm there through volunteer projects to rebuild some of the villages.
I want this to be a travel blog when I'm away, but unfortunately, I will not have internet access at my apartment in Greece. While there will be wireless internet at the school building, I don't know how often I will be able to access the internet. I will have a mobile phone, so perhaps I will be able to talk to :him: once a week or more, but the sad fact is, we won't have much contact at all. It has been two years now, two wonderful years. I still can't believe that of those two years, I have spent most of the time apart from him. It was tough enough for us this summer when we were separated by a fifteen hour time difference and the Pacific ocean, but that was only six weeks! At least we were able to communicate through googletalk once a day. This time, there will be ten hours, the mainland of the United States, the Atlantic Ocean, and Western Europe separating us for 3.5 months. While the ten hour difference makes the distance seem shorter than the P.R.C., the H.R. (Hellenic Republic) seems so much farther away because of the longer flight and the land masses separating us. Regardless, I know somehow we will make it. Afterall, we have been separated for most of our time.
