warped tour 2006

music: Plain White T's - Take Me Away
mood: all right

no pictures this time, i didnt want to lug my fat nikon coolpix around warped tour. but whitney took fab pictures of the bands we saw and gorgeous views of the bay bridge. the weather was so beautiful on saturday. the sun was beaming down on us at pier 30, and i got sunburned for the first time in years.

we got there before 11, but we still didnt make it in time to see Armor for Sleep. i guess they're not a very well-known band, but they're still very good and i wish i had seen them perform. anyhow, we started off with the hellogoodbye performance, which had a fabulous end with "touchdown turnaround." they are definitely a lot of fun to see on stage, and i liked the nice touch with the dancing banana, chubaka, hotdog, and beer bottle. i didnt like them too much before because i felt they were too SoCal-powerpop for me, but after that performance, i've definitely developed a soft spot for them. we also saw Thursday, Less Than Jake, The Academy Is..., Saves the Day, Motion City Soundtrack, and a little bit of Plain White T's and Amber Pacific along with other random bands. unfortunately, none of us were able to get autographs because 1) we didnt want to wait in long lines in the scorching heat and 2) we'd rather watch the bands perform than miss their performance to wait in line for them. at least we picked up a shitload of sampler CDs, a 1 year subscription to Alternative Press for $5, and random free posters and stickers. brian got the meg&dia EP that's not even out yet, and wolf...i dont know what he was doing, but i know he was raking in free shit. and i bought this great t-shirt that came with a free vans hat:

evan, thanks for another fabulous weekend ;D and i forgive you for your ridiculous hat.

i worked the next day at the world cup final and damn, zidane just let me down. but then again, the missed penalty kick was unforgiveable. i think that miss is gonna haunt the french forever. anyhow, tips were okey...not as great as they were in the past, but at least tips are good in general at the restaurant so i can look forward to making money that tends to surpass my actual salary. good shit. anyhow, spent a quiet sunday evening with evan, watching tv and eating klondikes. summer has been fantastic, and i only wish it was slower. i havent accomplished much, but i have been enjoying my summer. i guess that's what really counts.

something very obnoxious i saw at macy's on friday:

when you see an iPod accessory vending machine, you know our nation has its priorities fucked up.

music: parental snores
mood: tired sad

another week has quickly flown by. i cant even remember what i did last week, besides work, interviews, uncertain internships, and the world cup. i remember when i was younger, i used to write in my diary every day to keep track of everything that had happened to me, and to record every "significant" moment of my life. these days, time flies by so quickly that i can barely keep up.

time is always a constant theme in my entries. i guess i'm just intrigued by our perception of this arbitrary concept. i always feel that time ultimately flies by quickly. every moment is fleeting, every event quickly becomes memory. once, i told evan that for me, time did fly quickly this past year of college, but he said on the contrary, it was tormentingly slow for him. it's amazing how differently we perceive time. and i wonder what effect that has on our relationship.

anyhow, last night was fabulous with my girls and the boys. the 8 of us (wow, basic 8!) came over to my house for a night of Taboo and booze. we didnt drink much, just some bacardi, smirnoff, mimosa (yuck! korbel!), sangria, etc. after the boys left, the girls and i ended up staying up all night just talking, catching up on each other's lives. moë and i were the ultimate troopers! we held out all night without a wink of sleep. XD then around 8 in the morning, we all went to Howard's Cafe on 9th for some breakfast. whitney and i dropped by Arizmendi first, where i also ran into evan's mother on the way out. i believe she was buying scones to feed her canadian relatives before their flight. anyhow, the potatoes i ordered from Howard's was a total mistake because 1) i cant eat anything that early; 2) too much butter after a night of hard liquor (well, i stopped by 2am) is a terrible mix. thus, i slept through the germany-italy game, which made me quite sad since this is the second amazing game that i have missed in a week. :sigh:

anyhow, work tonight was not satisfactory. i'm extremely sad that i had to miss the fireworks again this summer, especially since it was a clear night out for once. i had to work the closing shift, a good 8 hours since closing requires me to do a lot more than just clear the tables and cash out. tips werent as great as i wanted them to be....in fact, this was one of my lesser nights, despite the fact this is the one time that i had more tables and sales than any other time. i forgot to force the gratuity charge on a couple of the tables, which gave me a depressing tip. i know that there will always be people who no matter what you do for them, they will never tip you well or honestly. tonight was one of those nights where a table of asian high school kids and another table of young adults had huge orders, but gave bad tips, despite the fact that i had to do a lot for them. they were a predictable bunch, but hot damn i wish i didnt have to deal with them. those people just depress the hell out of me.

this past weekend was amazing. i hope there were be more to come soon...warped tour this weekend! i'm stoked!
